There are a lot of note taking apps that are now in the App Store, but quite frankly, none are as awesome as Awesome Note.

Awesome Note is a note app that allows you to customize your notes with a various selection of themes. The UI is absolutely gorgeous as well, and you will see that when you first launch the app.

Awesome Note let’s you create various folders for your notes, and each can be customized with an icon and folder color. On the main screen, the folders are organized by time created, but you can reorder them the way you desire as well. The folders have this ‘real’ feeling to them, since they look very realistic and are on what looks like a desk as the background. Very unique and beautiful to look at. The first screen will hold five folders (including the All Notes folder), but if you require more folders, they will be put on a second page, similar to the iPhone’s own screen pages.

When you view a folder, the default view you see is a bunch of thumbnail icons of the notes you have, complete with what background is being used. You can also switch to a list view if you prefer. Notes can be organized by date or alphabetically, though they can’t be rearranged like the folders can.

On the main screen, in addition to the folders, there are options for Quick Memo and New Note at the top so you can get started immediately.

It’s been quite today in the iPhone world. No major release, no major update, no real interesting news…That will probably change by tomorrow during the iPod event (we’ll be blogging all we can). In the meantime here is an app that many may have been waiting for.

At long last, the official Flickr iPhone app is in the App Store. This free app allows Flickr users to upload their iPhone photographs to their Flickr accounts as well as view photostreams that have been created by themselves and others. The app has the following features:

  • Shoot, upload and share photos and videos
  • Geo-tag photos or add to a set
  • View photos by set and tag
  • View photos from friends and family
  • Search and view photos by contact
  • Make comments on photos
  • Search by subject, people or places

I’m not a big Flickr user, but decided to give the app a quick look today. There were several things that I wasn’t thrilled with. For example, geotagging in the Flickr app has to be done at the time that the photo is taken. If you try to add a geotag to a picture that’s already in your photo library, the Flickr app adds your current location — not the location where the photo was actually taken.

Flickr does the same thing for the photo date — if you wait a few days to upload a photo, it marks it with the upload date, not the date that the photo was actually taken. In addition, the Recent button is supposed to show recent activity and uploads, but even after 30 minutes it still didn’t show that I had uploaded several photos.

I’d also like to see the app offer the ability to look for photos taken near your current location. While this is a long-awaited addition to the App Store, the app doesn’t appear to be very well thought out or executed. At least it’s a first release, so we can expect upgrades in functionality down the road.

Like its music app on the iPhone, which allows you to use your iPhone to tap into your desktop’s music collection, Simplify Media provides similar functionality with photos through its Simplify Photo [iTunes link] iPhone app.

Many of us are forgetful in some form, and this trait is especially magnified when one proceeds to show others an “awesome photo” on your iPhone that, sadly, didn’t get synced. Instead of telling your friends that you’ll show or email them the photo later — assuming you even remember to — you can use Simplify Photo to view your entire iPhoto collection.

While increased megapixels in digital photography brings with it the promise of better picture quality, in most cases it comes at a file size premium. And because storage space on your iPhone is a finite resource, you can choose to set aside dedicated space for those really important photos and use Simplify Photo for those that are not as important but would nonetheless like to have access to just in case.

Simplify Photo is available for 99 cents on the iTunes App Store, while the required desktop client (available for Mac OS X, Windows, and Linux) is available as a free download at the Simplify Media site. The desktop app allows you to not only specify which iPhoto albums and events to sync, but the people as well — via integration with the app’s “Faces” facial detection feature. And if you’re not exactly sure which album or event a photo is stored, you can use the app’s search feature, which searches your photos’ tags, titles and comments.

But the standout feature of Simplify Photo is its geolocation support. Like iPhoto ’09’s places feature, Simplify Photo displays a map with various dropped pins; and tapping on the pins will display the photos taken in the vicinity.

If a picture can say a thousand words, then Simplify Photo’s desktop syncing capabilities have the potential to make your iPhone speechlessly filled with photos.

Convertbot, from Tapbots, is an excellent converter app for the iPhone, with a gorgeous interface, intuitive control elements, and cute sound effects. It features a useful range of the most commonly converted measurements. Using Convertbot, you can convert currency, speeds, time, data storage sizes, and more! More than 440 types of units are included. While not an app that’s likely to get a lot of use, for those times you do need to convert something, Convertbot makes it fun!
I’ve been using it for over a week now and it just replaced anything I was using before

Musicmakers are going to love playing around with Groovemaker, a family of apps that allow you to create and share electronic, dance and hip-hop songs on the go, in real-time just like a professional DJ or music producer.

At the moment, Groovemaker comes in 4 variations: FREE (free), Club ($4.99), House ($9.99) and Hip-Hop ($9.99). Four additional styles will follow shortly.

The apps come with hundreds of loops that can be automatically remixed on 8 available tracks. Choose a “Mix” button to create a new groove, add beats, effects, melody or additional loops. The sky’s the limit.

Be careful what you wish for, cause you just might get it. Many of us veterans played duke nukem with it’s stunning 3d environement and all the sprites..back in 96 when it got released.. Feel the nostalgia? Well I’m not hiding I bought this title with high expectations. So did it live-up? Well, no.
After all the great ui we have come to see with other titles from Gameloft or id Software, Electronic Arts, I must say I was dissappointed by the controls. They offer some level of customisation and let you rearange the layout, yet not good enough. Hope 1.1 will address this issue soon…

TechCrunch is reporting today that an iPhone App that utilizes the Apple Push Notification system to let you know you have new Gmail is about to hit the app store. The app, called GPush, is developed by Tiverias Apps, and gives Gmail users an instant notification that new mail has arrived. iPhone users will still have to read their mail, either in a browser or the Apple Mail client, but the notifications will be essentially instant.

It’s an interesting development, given how badly other Google-related apps have fared of late on the iPhone. The developers of the app say it has been sitting unapproved for a month, and they are wondering about the timing of it suddenly being blessed.

Of course this app was not likely to get AT&T all hot and bothered, so it is not a perfect test of a seismic shift in the attitudes around Apple, but any change in the way the App Store works will be interesting to watch.

GPush will be €0.79 for a week.

Google has updated it’s popular Google Mobile iPhone App that fixes the issues of OS 3.0 affecting the voice search feature.
When you installed the iPhone 3.0 operating system, you would have noticed that lifting the receiver to your ear and speaking your command would no longer function.
Google admittedly broke Apple’s rules by releasing such a feature. Specifically, moving the phone to your ear and having the application change to listen for you to speak, was not a supported developer feature in the iPhone SDK so when iPhone 3.0 OS came out, it seemed to have broke that neat feature.
With the new update to the Google Mobile App this is now fixed and works as before.

Navigon mobile navigator price drops from 99,99€ to 79,99€. This offer will expire end of this month. I bought the app on day one and it has totally replaced my stand-alone solution. I love the design, the UI, the lane view and pretty much all about it. Nb: keep your iPhone out of it’s case and high in the windshield to avoid reception issues

L’essentiel app, currently in the top 25 for free apps is straightforward what you expect it to be. Shows all the main headlines the hardcopy does plus you have access to luxembourgish traffic-cams. Oddly it’s very similar to an older app called iLux, it just looks better.
