Fresh release in the Apple Store!! First external web browser available for download.
After reading an article I directly downloaded the app and I was really surprised by the quality of this browser.

Opera1The main page can be personalized with your preferred internet site.  Once you are in a site you can still switch between several pages.

Just a quick post to notify whoever doesn’t check the Appstore at least 4 times a day (for updates or new apps) that a new version of Dropbox (what a good service this is!) has been posted to the Appstore yesterday.

This update is meant to fix a few things, most notably, the compatibility with OS 3.0. Lot of people didn’t upgrade to 3.1 either because of the know “random shutdowns” or because no jailbreak was available, those same people couldn’t use Dropbox on their iPhone as the application simply would not run on an iPhone running an OS lower than 3.1

We could argue the speed of the approval process as this update came out AFTER 3.1.2 was released and a JB being available, still, always good to see updates flowing in.

My recommendation? Signup with Dropbox (using this link we’ll get a bit more space each) and install the iPhone app right away. Personally love it!

Luxembourg can already count on some local and specific apps. That’s nice already…

What’s even nicer is when one of our favourite applications announces an update. Yes, Yellow has published an update to the AppStore for approval! That’s not it, we from LuxiPhone will be able to get a full hands-on preview beforehand!

Here is it how it looks right now:

yellow_iphoneThat’s the way it looks now….and I guess soon we can reveal all the improvements exclusively here

What? Are you that one person who doesn’t have yellow.lu on their iPhone? Thank God we make your life easier..get it right here

(Thanks to Yellow for the info an the pic!)

Not really, but still somehow… Yes.

We now have in the AppstoreBoundless” (Featuring Photography by John Covington), an application that displays tiny thumbnail images (on which you can click, yes, you can).

screen-shot-2009-10-05-at-october-5-114054-am-200x300

There about fifty “erotic” (as labelled by Appadvice) images in this app, but here comes the clever bit… Before some of you rush to buy the application. While the thumbnails lead to think/see that the full picture is of a naked body, once you click to see it big, the parts that could make someone blush are automagically gone because slightly offscreen or via other smart mechanisms ;)

But this could be the start of Applestore getting a bit more relaxed on their application process, hopefully, let’s see.

There is a brand quite famous in the Mac scene for it’s video products. I’m talking about ElGato (which means “the cat” in Spanish, btw).

They do some nice kits either to watch tv on your Mac or encode/transcode videos. I know Vitovox, for example, is fond of their products. So, if you’re already using an EyeTV on your Mac, why don’t you start watching live and recorded tv on your iPhone?

To who like me jumps on every update before even reading what others that tried before say, I feel your pain.

Well, this also comes from the confidence that Apple got us to feel when they come out with something. The concept that makes their strength is not only the “wow factor”, coolness of their products, it’s also the “it just works”. But, this time, I’ve the impression that the 3.1 update hasn’t been a huge success. This post is actually an update on a previous one. Unfortunately it’s not an update that brings good news. The issue is still there, and a lot of people are really unhappy. See the picture here below: Continue reading »

The comment I get from a large part of the people that still didn’t fall for the iPhone (and Apple in general) is about the virtual keyboard of the iPhone and sending texts. A comment from the ones to be considered “heavy texters”. I’m talking about that special breed that is able to send around 500-600 SMS a day. They probably have 30 fingers, don’t know, still, they’re entire life is like a looong SMS (hyper concatenated SMS).

As I was saying before, one of the comment I get a lot is:”Yeah, the iPhone is great but I won’t be able to get used to the virtual keyboard… That’s a <No, no> for me”.

Personally had several phones before the iPhone and ranged from a simple Ericsson GH788e (my first and the most awesome non PDA mobile ever made!) to some Compaqs PDAs, then HP, then Nokia with Symbian, couple of Blackberrys… And then the iPhone. What I loved of the Blackberry was also the fact of having a full keyboard. I use a computer most of the day. I’m using to type on a keyboard. Coudn’t imagine doing development (coding, programming) with T9 on a numeric pad. Could you imagine doing the same or using Excel with predictive T9 text? Naa. So when I switched to the Blackberry… I enjoyed every part of it (push email, etc) and the full keybodard. Ok, smaller than my computer’s one, but still a full keyboard and sending emails or texts was a pleasure (I’m more an “email guy” than “text guy”).

The day I switched to the iPhone… I must admit it took me some time to get used to the virtual keyboard. I don’t have huge fingers but managed anyway to type several times the wrong key and so son. After a while, and especially since we have the keyboard also in landscape mode, I’m enjoying it more. I can understand thus that some people still won’t take the plunge because of the lack of a physical keyboard. There are some people willing to send an sms without checking the screen. With a touchscreen that is a bit difficult.

My friend Vitovox sent me today a link to another blog (Engadget) which was writing about a “true innovation”. A physical keyboard for the iPhone. No, not a piece of “Frankensteinesque” DIY like the video below

but a real accessory to attach to your iPhone. It’s called the iTwinge.

itwinge-4

Must be that somebody got the idea to make something like a mix of a case and an accessory… It’s still unclear whether this keyboard is meant to connect to the iPhone dock connector or if it’s just a way to press on the screen via some rubber letters covering the virtual keyboard, the only thing we know now is that it retails at 30$+shipping and is available for preorder. Shipping expected for November.

Do you think this will make more people to come to the iPhone world?

Was looking around for a new skin to put on my iPhone. Ok, got two cases and already bought a Gelaskin but… The cases… Although I love my ION Carbon case (ION Factory) which protects pretty well the iPhone, sometimes you just want to go a bit less “clothed”… And a skin suits best in those situations.

So went to check for some skins and found this website. I fell in love right away!

Infectious

They really have some pretty cool designs, I checked around the different categories and found at least 2–3 I would have ordered right away, but then saw the one below…

Mikey_ion_monochrome_iphone_catalog_thumb

I agree that maybe it looks a bit for kids, but on the other hand I find it quite nice and funny. It retails or 14.99$. Think it’s not gonna take long before I click the “Order” button.

As part of iPhone OS 3.1, Mobile Safari gained an anti-phishing feature that according to many users, just hasn’t been working properly.  The feature seemed to be inconsistent best, warning some users of malicious websites while others who visited the same sites were not.  This caused a bit of a stir among the Apple faithful to say the least, so The Loop decided to go straight to the source and ask Apple spokesperson Bill Evans what exactly is going on.

According to Evans, the anti-phishing database is only updated when charging/syncing in order to preserve battery life and to not incur hidden data usage chargers.

“Safari’s anti-phishing database is downloaded while the user charges their phone in order to protect battery life and ensure there aren’t any additional data fees,” Apple spokesman, Bill Evans, told The Loop. “After updating to iPhone OS 3.1 the user should launch Safari, connect to a Wi-Fi network and charge their iPhone with the screen off. For most users this process should happen automatically when they charge their phone.”

If users haven’t downloaded the entire database, some sites will be left out, which would explain the many inconsistencies with the feature.

If you are concerned that your anti-phishing database may not be complete, just connect to a local Wi-Fi network, open Mobile Safari, and start charging your device. (via appadvice)
