Chinatown Wars

GTA: Chinatown Wars has come to the iPhone and is now present on all of the major mobile gaming platforms. The game originally debuted on the Nintendo DS, then hi-jacked the PSP, and it’s now a $9.99 premium title on the App Store — available right now.

Unlike the most recent Grand Theft Auto titles, Chinatown Wars focuses on old-school GTA gameplay, so you don’t see the world from a 3rd-person perspective, but rather an isometric top-down view. This might make it more difficult to pull off fast driving sequences and shoot-outs, but it also sounds like it might be a lot easier to navigate on a platform where every button takes up some screen space. You’ll be doing a lot of carjacking, ramming, and shooting in the game, so the control scheme is very important.

The game is made by Rockstar (no copycats here), and I’d expect all of the colourful language and content that goes with the territory. I’m definitely interested in trying the title out, so we might have a review here sometime soon. In the meantime, here’s the iTunes link.

GTA Chinatown has been a big success on the Gameboy DS and the PSP and has been excelently ported to our platform.

If you’re Jailbroken yet still frustrated that you can’t move between iPhone apps as easily as you can web pages in Safari (or Palm webOS users can in card view), ProSwitcher [Free beta - Cydia] is something to consider.

A front end to Backgrounder, which enables multitasking on a Jailbroken iPhone or iPod touch, duplicates the “Pages” metaphor in MobileSafari, including swipe-able switching and X-icon closing, and for good measure adds in the swipe-up-to-close gesture from Palm’s webOS “Cards” interface.

ProSwitcher is currently in free beta and available via Cydia at http://booleanmagic.com/repo. I tried it and just happen to love it. I used to own a Palm Pre and one of the neat features was the card view, and I must admit that the experience on the iPhone is just as good if not better.

I was wondering how geeky are we, and how many of the gifts we made or received were iPhone related?

As a matter of fact, the presents I made were up to 80% for the iPhone. Even the small presents like our ViKaSkins were a huge success.

Obviously no one dared to gift me anything iPhone related since, you guessed it, I own pretty much any accessory out there…too risky…

Analysts are saying there is a 75% of a chance for an Apple event to happen in January 2010. So as usual, the rumors are invading the interwebs and pretty much every popular blog is adding their own rumor.

the rumor I’m most concerned about is the Tablet, or the high-definition iPhone, or the oversized iPod Touch…whatever:

Do you think Apple will introduce the iTablet in January 2010?

here is a cool iPhone app that displays an iPhone in an augmented reality view within your iPhone. It’s even capable to launch apps (pretends to). All it needs in this case is your camera to point at an Orange logo and the magic happens. It’s difficult to explain, therefore just watch the clip:

TOMTOM Europe price drops from 99,99 eur to 79,99 eur, bringing the price only 10 eur more expensive than the 69,99 eur BENELUX version, which is a good bargain.

I still rather use Navigon, for the record.

A couple of days ago, I bought (cough, cough) 2 games that need to be mentioned as being proof that the iPhone is a serious competitor for handheld gaming consoles and, I experienced it first hand, made me think twice about buying a PSP Go or not (as a matter of fact I chose not to).

First there is N.O.V.A. from Gameloft, that is a HALO-clone. Gameloft has proven in the past that production value goes over creativity and managed to push the iPhones grafic processing power each time a bit further. Not creativ but damned, if you want to show off what your phone can do, this title is the app to launch.

Today is a great day for us. Apple has just approved our first iPhone / Touch application!
I must say that the approval process was totally different than most I had read around. It was totally smooth, friendly contact with Reviewers and quick result. Really pleased about it.
Anyhow, since a picture is worth a thousands words, I leave you with our official ViKaNews ( LuxiPhone) application. And now rush to the Appstore to install it! ;)

Quick tip while the press is still hot. Check the Appstore, a new application by Apple itself has been posted.

iTunes 12 days of Christmas

What is it? Apple will give away free gifts (music, tv, apps or movies, while we still have to see what will be applicable to our Luxembourg iTunes store) from the 26th of December to the 6th of January.

Users that install the application may receive a push notification each day telling them their free gift is available.

I don’t know what will come up but I already installed it!

Out of curiosity, instead of having our operator say that their network is the best, let’s you, us, do the talk.
